For one moment, you forget how to breathe.
Not because betrayal is new to you.
Betrayal built half the rooms in your life.
But Serena had been different.
You had let her touch the softest parts of you. You had let her sit beside your mother. You had let her choose flowers for a wedding you never thought you would want. You had imagined her walking through this mansion not as a guest, not as a decoration, but as family.
